ALEXANDER KELLER (1880-1932)
GENERATION 1
THE CLASSICAL ERA
Alexander was born in Friedberg, Bavaria, as the son of the brewery owner Martin Keller. After graduating from high school, he went to South Tyrol and Northern Italy in 1900 to paint landscapes. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under the painter Professor Hermann Gröber from 1904 to 1909.
In the fall of 1914, the family took up residence in the countryside in Utting am Ammersee for safety reasons. Alexander was drafted into the cavalry and promoted to major shortly before the end of the war. Whenever possible, he draws and paints “his black horse”.
After the war, the family moved back to Munich-Schwabing. There, among other things, Bavarian idylls, landscapes and portraits were created in oil, red chalk and charcoal, almost all of which were sold to support the family in these difficult times.
SELECTED ARTWORK
In his works, Alexander reproduces the motifs objectively and close to nature. His academic training is evident in each of the few works that are still in the family's possession today. We are pleased to present you a selection.
